Résumé Builder — the first thing built, rebuilt and live
A blank page is the hardest part of a résumé, so this one asks the questions instead — then renders the answers into any of four templates, previewed as the actual printed page. The first thing I ever built, in 2024, with HTML, CSS and JavaScript and no server; and the first thing I rebuilt, in 2026, with accounts, autosave and sharing.
The problem
Students knew what they'd done but not how to phrase it. The blank page, not the formatting, was the blocker — and every existing tool solved the formatting.
The approach
A guided editor, one section at a time, each with a plain-language prompt, autosaving as you type. The preview is the real A4 sheet scaled to fit, updating on every keystroke; sizes inside the templates are in millimetres so preview and print match, and the PDF comes from the browser's own print — no server-side rendering. Four templates — Classic, Modern, Compact for ATS scanners, Sidebar — with your choice of accent colour and font, and a read-only link per résumé that you can switch off. The 2024 original is still public: seven templates, localStorage, html2pdf, every line in the browser — which is what you build when HTML, CSS and JavaScript are the only three things you know.
